Pal Joey

~Pal Joey~
This page will serve to relive my experience in seeing the play that Stockard Channing is starring in through February in New York City.

New York City is not exactly budget-friendly, and seeing a play fits right in with that scenario. However, I would recommend the experience to anybody. The city itself is like a glimmering jewel, and is eye candy at it's best. Walking along the streets you see lights boasting advertisements for hundreds of plays starring hundreds of our favorite actors and actresses. My intent was to see Stockard Channing perform live and up close. It was one of the most fascinating and magical experiences of my life!

The play, 'Pal Joey' is housed at Studio 54's Roundabout Theatre. It is a quaint theatre, beautifully ornate and is situated in an area that is not covered with people swarming the streets which seems to be the norm in NYC. Having merely seen small town plays during my life I have little to compare 'Joey' to, but I was completely enthralled with the entire show. Of course, I am partial to all that is positive about the play because I love Stockard Channing and anything that she does is golden hued in my eyes. But the play was really good.

Stockard herself was the highlight of the play. She plays an older woman, Vera Simpson who is wooed by a young singing/dancing womanizer who uses her for her millions (or her eternally absent husband, rather). Since she is bored, she easily succombs to his manipulation and falls victim to him. But, true to Stockard form, she sees through him in the end and redeems herself by exposing him as he is.

Her performance was perfection, and she is a very attractive woman who exudes a certain sexual appeal. Her costumes were classy, sexy, and beautiful and she did a fabulous job. She sings several times, twice with co-stars and she dances as well. Though her singing is not dubbed as spectacular as that of co-star Martha Plimpton, Stockard holds her own quite nicely and manages to awe you still. She is a greatly talented woman who slips easily into the part she was cast making you believe that she truly is Vera Simpson
